Comments for the Week of February 27-March 2
  • Biggest winner this week: Justin Atkins ($44,973) (February 29)
  • For the second straight week, all ten car games games were lost this week. The last time a car game was won was Hi Lo on February 17.
  • Three out of the five contestants called ninth (before the sixth one bid) this week didn't "blow their one chance to win". The 60% success rate this week is significantly better than the 15.7% win rate in the rest of this season (17/108 contestants called ninth in all other episodes this season managed to win their way up on stage).
  • We have now reached 400 Pricing Game losses on the season. Pathfinder on Monday was loss #400.
  • The Danger Price on Monday's episode was $4,995. That smashed the record for the highest danger price ever used in this game (Previous high: $3,595 on the February 9, 2012 playing).
  • There was only a $298 difference between both prizes in 1 Right Price on Wednesday. That's the smallest difference between both prizes since at least Season 36 (previous low: $440 on April 8, 2009). Despite the difficulty, both playings still managed to be won.
  • Friday's Plinko was the 17th time a cash game was won this season. That tied the total number of wins the cash games achieved in all of last season. The cash games are now six wins away from matching the mark set in Season 38 (23).
  • It's a pretty tight race for the Pricing Game with the best overall record this season. In first, you have Pick-a-Pair with a perfect 9-0 record, followed closely behind by Secret "X" (5-1; 83.3%), Cliff Hangers (9-2; 81.8%), Bullseye (4-1; 80%), Side By Side (12-3; 80%) and Check-Out (6-2; 75%). Last season, only one Pricing Game finished with a record above 80%: Shell Game at 4-1.
  • Frequency of Pricing Games played on episodes airing on February 29:
    Three TimesBonus Game ('80, '88, '08)
    Lucky $even ('80, '84, '88)
    Two TimesCheck Game ('84, '96), Most Expen$ive ('84, '08)
    Poker Game ('80, '84), Push Over ('08, '12)
One TimeBarker's Bargain Bar ('88), Card Game ('88), Clock Game ('88),

Comments for the Week of March 5-9
  • Biggest winner this week: Matthew Austin ($39,886) (March 5)
  • Streaks snapped: 1/2 Off (7 straight losses - previous win was January 4, 2012),
Side by Side (5 straight wins - previous win was December 20, 2011).
  • On Monday, James lost Push Over by $284 - the closest loss since at least the start of Season 36.
  • On Tuesday, Raymond won Spelling Bee even though he only had three cards. Since Season 30, only 4 out of 17 contestants (including Raymond) have won Spelling Bee with three cards or less.
  • Also on Tuesday, Side by Side was lost for the first time this season when it was played for a prize that wasn't a snowmobile. (Side by Side was played for a snowmobile the other three times it was lost this season).
  • Wrapping up Tuesday's first half, Make Your Move was played for $3,697 kitchen appliances - the cheapest four-digit prize offered in this game since May 9, 2008 ($3,582 trip to Anchorage).
  • The $4,248 bed offered in Wednesday's fifth one bid is the most expensive one bid since everyone's favorite bubble chair ($4,214) was offered on October 29, 2010. It was also only the fourth one bid to exceed $4,000 in the past three seasons.
  • On Wednesday, Drew made his third ever putt in Hole in One. The only other times Drew's putt was truly inspirational was October 13, 2008 and September 15, 2010.
  • Also on Wednesday, in 1 Wrong Price:
    • One of the prizes offered was 12 pairs of Shoes worth $690 - the cheapest prize offered in this game since February 10, 2005 ($565 luggage).
    • The three prizes totalled $4,098 - the smallest sum for the three prizes since March 27, 2008 ($3,324).
    • There was a $2,331 difference between the actual price ($690) and the wrong price of the shoes ($3,021) - the largest difference since February 7, 2008 ($3,151).
  • Most Expen$ive was played fifth on Thursday, becoming the ninth game to be played in all six slots this season (joining Squeeze Play, Switch?, Side by Side, Flip Flop, 1 Right Price, 1 Wrong Price, That's Too Much and Pick-a-Number).
  • The four gifts in Friday's Temptation totalled $2,875 - the smallest sum for the four prizes since June 17, 2008 ($2,663).
  • Spinners spinning first in the Showcase Showdown have been struggling lately. Since February 1, only 12/56 (21.43%) of spinners spinning first have won. (Between Seasons 29 and 39, the success rate was 29.87%.)
  • 14 out of the 31 prizes offered in the Showcase this week were trips.
  • Only five one-prize quickie games were played this week (Side by Side, Range Game, Push Over, Freeze Frame, Double Prices) - the fewest in a five day week since the week of May 5-9, 2008 (Coming or Going, Squeeze Play, Double Prices, Range Game).
  • Money Game has not been played since February 14, 2011 (17 episodes ago). The last time Money Game got three weeks off? Season 24! (In fact, Money Game was only played 13 times that season and was not played at all between November 17, 1995 and January 10, 1996.)
  • What car game will finish the season with the most futile record? Both Cover Up and That's Too Much seem to be doing everything possible to achieve that distinction. Cover Up is currently 0-16 - quite possibly the worst ever start to a season for a non-cash game. Meanwhile, That's Too Much is 2-19 and is deadset on racking up 30 losses for the second straight season.
Comments for the Week of March 12-14
  • Biggest winner this week: William Fagan ($37,661) (March 14)
  • Second biggest winner this week: William Lehman ($37,412) (March 12) (Conclusion: People named William are consistent.)
  • Losing streaks snapped: Swap Meet (10 straight losses - last win had been February 22, 2011)
  • Quasi-streak snapped: Step Up - the last time the game was fully won (excluding the technical win on December 14, 2010) was on October 6, 2009
    (15 playings ago).
  • With Swap Meet and Step Up picking up their first wins of the season this week, there now remains 8 games that have not been outright won this season
(Cover Up, Golden Road, Magic #, More or Less, Pay the Rent, Punch-a-Bunch, 3 Strikes and Triple Play).
  • On Monday, William quit with $500 in Punch a Bunch even though he still had one unrevealed slip. Last time a contestant bailed out in Punch a Bunch with less than $1,000: March 29, 2002 (also a $500 bailout).
  • With the win on Tuesday, Pick-a-Pair improved to a perfect 10-0 on the season. That's the best start for a Pricing Game since Bullseye went 14-0 in Season 36. Can Pick-a-Pair go the entire season without being lost? The game has come close to achieving this feat in recent season - it went 16-1 in Season 29, 13-1 in Season 32 and 14-1 in Season 35.
  • On Wednesday, 1 Right Price was won when it was played for two trips. That snapped a six game losing for this game under these conditions. (Previous time the game was won when it was played for trips: June 1, 2010).
  • Also on Wednesday, Step Up was played for a $4,995 pool table - the most expensive prize ever offered in this game. In fact, it was the first time a prize exceeded $4,000.
  • The prize package in Wednesday's Step Up ($9,483) was also the largest amount ever offered in this game.
  • Overall, several droughts were snapped on Wednesday's episode:
    • All three games in a half were won (Happened for the 11th time this season and for the first time since February 6)
    • Five Pricing Games were outright won (Happened for the second time this season, joining the December 26 episode in this seemingly exclusive club.)
    • Over $90,000 was won (Highest winnings since January 13)
  • Between September 24, 2000 and March 11, 2011, zero contestants punched hole #49 in Punch-a-Bunch (the hole directly to the left of the bottom-right corner) - a span of 192 playings. In the 22 playings since, six contestants have selected this hole. What has suddenly made hole #49 so desirable?
  • So far this season, Coming or Going has been won four straight times, lost six straight times and won four straight times. Here's hoping this pattern does not continue. Otherwise, I would not want to be one of the next six contestants to play this game!
Comments for the Week of March 19-23
  • Biggest winner this week: Josue & Juan Rodriguez ($34,352) (March 21)
  • 16 Pricing Games were won this week (15 if you exclude the $11,500 win in Plinko). That's the second winning week of the season (joining the week of January 9-13). That's pretty good, considering there were no winning weeks in all of Seasons 38 and 39.
  • Congratulations to Switch?, which became the first Pricing Game to be won 15 times this season. (Push Over is next, with 13 wins.)
  • Congratulations(?) to That's Too Much!, which became the first Pricing Game to be lost 20 times this season. (Cover Up is next, with 17 losses).
  • The $8,390 appliances offered in Switch? on Monday is the most expensive non-trip prize ever offered in this game. (Previous high: a $7,270 outdoor television on June 8, 2010.)
  • The difference between both prizes in Magic # on Tuesday was $3,171 - most likely the largest spread ever used in this game (previous high: $2,672 on September 20, 2011).
  • Magic # was also played sixth on Tuesday. Last time the game was played sixth: May 26, 2009.
  • Also on Tuesday, Hampar overbid on a tea set by $65 in Cliff Hangers - the largest miss since a contestant overbid on a cookie press by $325 on January 7, 2005.
  • On Wednesday, Take Two was played second. Last time that's happened: February 2, 2001
  • Also on Wednesday, Pick-a-Pair was played for two cars. Last time Pick-a-Pair was played for one car: May 27, 1999. (It is very likely this was the first time Pick-a-Pair was played for two cars.)
  • Still on Wednesday, 2 for the Price of 1 was played for $10,578 motor scooters. That was likely the first time this game was played for a five-digit prize that was not a car.
  • After starting the season at 4-8, 1 Right Price has since been won in 8 out of its past 10 playings and has improved its records to 12-10. From a 33% to a 55% winning percentage - very nice turnaround!
  • If the week of March 5-9 was unusual because only five 1-prize quickie games were played, this week was downright bizarre. Only four 1-prize games were played (Range Game, Double Prices, Squeeze Play, Flip Flop) - the fewest since the week of May 5-9, 2009.
  • The most expensive car offered in the Pricing Games this week was the $20,871 Chrysler 200LX in Friday's One Away. That's not too surprising considering two cars were offered in That's Too Much and Pick-a-Pair on Wednesday.
  • With the $1,000 win on Wednesday, we have surpassed $200,000 in winnings in the Showcase Showdown this season. (The current total is $201,000 as of March 23). We are currently on pace for total winnings of $303,000 on the Big Wheel this season, which is slightly less than the amounts reached in Season 38 ($305,000) and Season 39 ($367,000).
Comments for the Week of March 26-30
  • Biggest winner this week: Tina Dorsey ($46,854 - biggest winner since January 31, 2012)
  • Streaks snapped: 1 Right Price (5 straight wins - last loss prior to this week was January 25, 2012)
  • The Push Over win on Monday was the 200th Pricing Game win of the season.
  • Also on Monday, Money Game was won even though the last two numbers were below 10. Last time a contestant didn't get fooled by el cheapo: June 15, 2010.
  • For the third time this season, Line em Up was won on the first try. In the past eleven years, only Season 33 (4 times) has had more wins on the first try.
  • With $10,000 being won on Monday, the total winnings so far this season in Pay the Rent is $45,000. That's already better than the mark set last season ($40,000) and is more than what has been won in 1/2 Off ($43,000), It's in the Bag ($44,000) and Punch a Bunch ($30,600) so far this season.
  • Wednesday was the first time this season where the secret "X" was not placed in the middle row. Despite the secret "X" being placed in a more difficult position, the game was still won. With a current record of 7-1 (87.5%), Secret "X" is having an incredible season. In the past eleven years, the next closest season in terms of winning percentage is Season 31, at a mere 60% (9-6).
  • Not only has the Secret "X" been consistently placed in the middle row, but the prizes have been consistent as well. In 6/8 Secret "X" playings this season, the game was played for a prize worth between $6,710-$7,785, including 4 prizes priced between $6,710 and $6,852. (The $21,615 trip to Las Vegas on December 6 is a clear outlier.)
  • Thursday's marked Gwendolyn's 500th appearance as a price is right model. Gwendolyn is also celebrating her 7 year anniversary - she first appeared on March 31, 2005.
  • Both Showcases on Thursday offered a car - the first double car Showcase round since January 11.
  • Friday was only the second It's in the Bag wipeout of the season (9/11 contestants have won at least $2,000). The current average winnings is $4,000. If that holds, that would be the best performance since Season 36 ($88,000 won in 18 playings for an average of $4,889).

Comments for the Week of April 2-6
  • Biggest winner this week: Rebecca McKenzie ($45,174) (April 3)
  • Streak snapped: Any Number (7 straight losses). Prior to this week, the game was last won on December 23, 2011.
  • Streak snapped: That's Too Much (17 straight losses). Prior to this week, the game was last won on November 1, 2011 (while the game was won on January 3, this win was from an episode that aired out of order).
  • Wednesday's That's Too Much also snapped an 0-15 run where contestants lost when they had to stop at the third price in order to win.
  • After a 15-15 week, the overall Pricing Game record has improved to 324-492 (39.71%). We keep flirting with the 40% barrier, but haven't yet been able to surpass it. Another 15-15 performance next week would do it.
  • On Monday, the four gifts in Temptation totalled $5,925. While that was the highest total of the season, it pales in comparison to what has been offered in previous seasons:
    SeasonAverage
    Package
    Season
    High
    Times Above
    $5,925
    37$9,079$14,5715/6
    38$7,857$10,7616/8
    39$6,286$8,6724/7
  • In addition to a Mazda 6 and $2.50, Any Number was played for a $349 digital camera on Monday. That's the cheapest 3-digit prize offered in this game since early in Season 38. Early on in that season, cheap prizes were common: Any Number was played for a $270 GPS on October 8, a $204 Netflix Subscription on November 12 and $263 wetsuits on November 23.
  • On Tuesday, Five Price Tags was won for the fifth time this season. One more win would snap an impressive streak - the game has not been won more than five times in a season since at least Season 29.
  • Furthermore, with a current record of 5-3, Five Price Tags is on pace to finish a season above .500 for the first time since at least Season 29.
  • On Wednesday, Paul barely won Range Game: the right price was right on the top edge of the range finder. These close wins have occured quite frequently in the past two years: There were wins by $2 on June 13, 2011 and November 7, 2011, a win by $1 on October 1, 2010 and a win by $0 on October 5, 2010.
  • The $12,212 Showcase overbid on Wednesday was the second largest overbid of the season. However, it's still well behind the overbid of $25,839 from the season premiere.
  • With the green rat winning Thursday's Rat Race, all of the rats have now won at least twice this season. Well, except for the orange rat - that rodent is unfortunately still winless.
  • Compared to the previous eleven seasons, fewer Plinko chips have landed in the $100 or $0 slots this season, while more chips have landed in the $500, $1,000 and $10,000 slots:

Comments for the Week of April 9-13
  • Biggest winner this week: Stephen ($59,361) (April 13) - 7th biggest winner so far this season
  • Streaks snapped: Lucky $even (8 straight losses). Prior to this week, the last time this game was won was on January 25, 2012.
  • On Monday, Temptation was played third for the first time since June 28, 2008. Since then, Temptation has been played first or fifth in 23 out of 27 playings.
  • For the first time season, Side by Side was lost when contestants had to slide the numbers to the right (it previously had a 10-0 record) and when contestants had to choose the most expensive price (it previously had a 7-0 record).
  • Tuesday's loss in Plinko was the 500th time a Pricing Game was not fully won this season.
  • Robert got two numbers exactly right in Lucky $even on Tuesday. Last time there were two perfect guesses: May 27, 2011. (It's been nearly ten years - November 14, 2002 - since a contestant got three numbers exactly right.)
  • In 3 out of the 5 wins in Lucky $even this season, the contestant managed to win despite having missed one of the numbers by 4.
  • Flip Flop has now been won 13 times this season - the most number of wins for this game in one season. (Previous high: 10 wins in Season 31). Of course, Flip Flop has already been played 26 times this season (which is already more playings than it received in any other season except Seasons 39 and 40), so it's not unexpected that it managed break this record.
  • In its past three playings, Make Your Move has been played for increasingly cheaper prizes: $3,697 kitchen appliances on March 6, a $3,635 trip to Mammoth Lakes on April 4 and a $3,299 HDTV on Wednesday. In fact, the HDTV is the cheapest prize offered in this game since November 12, 2007 ($3,050 sauna).
  • On Thursday, Robert only got one number right in Cover Up. Last time that's happened: May 5, 2009. That's also only the second time it's happened in the past twelve seasons.
  • Oh, and Cover Up is now at 0-20 on the season. In the past twelve seasons, only Punch-a-Bunch (0-24 in Season 38) has had a worst start to a season.
  • Also on Thursday, Range Game was played third, becoming the tenth game to be played in all six slots this season (joining Squeeze Play, Switch?, Side by Side, Flip Flop, 1 Right Price, 1 Wrong Price, That's Too Much, Pick-a-Number and Most Expen$ive).
(Despite being played in five different slots this week, Plinko still has not been played second this season.)
  • On Friday, Squeeze Play was lost when it was a played for a four-digit prize and the contestant had to remove the second digit in order to win. That snapped a
10 game streak where the game was won under these conditions.
  • Also on Friday, Line em Up was played fourth for only the fourth time in its history (it was also played fourth on June 13, 2008, November 19, 2008 and January 23, 2009 - all thre of those playings were won).
  • There were some close Showcase results this week: The difference between both bidders was $200 on Thursday and $145 on Friday. However, neither result managed to crack the top 3. The closest results this season were $28 on December 23, $41 on January 25 and $140 on February 22.
  • Switch? was not played this week. The last time Switch? was not played in a week with five new episodes was December 6-10, 2010 - over one year ago. You can thank Bargain Game for helping snap this streak.
  • Six small prize games were played this week (Plinko five times and Five Price Tags). Other times there six small prize games were played in one week: February 21-25, 2011 (because Plinko and Master Key were both played on the Monday episode) and April 6-10, 1998 (because two small prize games were played on the 5000th episode).
  • Going by actual airdates, Bargain Game has been out of the rotation for 1,223 days. Unfortunately, while it was away, Golden Road, Punch-a-Bunch and Triple Play have all gone winless, while Temptation was only won once. Meanwhile, during this same span, 1 Right Price was played 111 times and Switch? was played 126 times. Hopefully the reemergence of Bargain Game will help reduce the number of playings for these two games.
  • Plinko was played five times this week. The only other time a Pricing Game was played five times in one week was Double Prices in the very first week of Season 1. In fact, the last time a Pricing Game was played three times in one week was in Season 12 (to promote The Phone Home Game).
  • All five Showcase winners this week won a car in their Showcase. That's a lot of "winner" license plates!
Comments for the Week of April 16-20
  • Biggest winner this week: Gidget Corn ($34,430) (April 20)
  • The total winnings for the week was $239,759 - the lowest total this season for a five-day week. It's also the lowest total since the week of April 12-15 & August 26 in Season 39 ($211,632).
  • For the fourth time this season, all ten Pricing Games played for a car this week were lost. That's pretty unusual - 0-10 weeks have happened only six times in the past four seasons combined (once in each of Seasons 36, 38 and 39, three times in Season 37).
  • Despite the difficult week, the car games have a winning record of 26.50% (75/283 car games won) this season and could still pass Season 39 (101/380 won = 26.58%) to avoid finishing the season with the worst overall record for car games.
  • While Arpi failed to win a Fiat 500 in Money Game, she did manage to win $297 - the most money won in this game since January 29, 2009 ($298). So it's not all bad news!
  • Range Game has now been lost eight straight times when it has been played for a car. (April 12, 2010 was the last time a car was won in this game).
  • On Tuesday, Safe Crackers was played second. Previous time the game was slotted in the second position: April 10, 2009.
  • The $11,149 trip to Amsterdam is also the most expensive non-car prize offered in Safe Crackers since it was played for a $14,864 trip to Australia on February 21, 2007.
  • Grand Game was played third on Wednesday, becoming the eleventh game to be played in all six slots at least once this season (joining Squeeze Play, Switch?, Side by Side, Flip Flop, 1 Right Price, 1 Wrong Price, That's Too Much, Pick-a-Number, Most Expen$ive and Range Game).
(Since Grand Game was rarely played first and fourth in prior seasons, this could be the first time Grand Game has been played in all six slots in one season.)
  • Bonus Game was played for the eleventh time this season on Wednesday. With 44ish episodes still left in the season, Bonus Game has already been played more times this season than it has in any of the previous 23 seasons! (Between Seasons 17 and 39, Bonus Game was never played more than 10 times.)
  • There have also been four perfect playings of Bonus Game this season. Season 30 was the last time four different contestants managed to capture all four windows in Bonus Game.
  • The combined value of Thursday's Showcases was $40,817 - the second lowest total of the season. Thursday was also the first time a Showcase valued under $20,000 was won. (While there were 7 other Showcases valued under $20,000 this season, all seven of these Showcases were not won.)
  • So far this season, 25 contestants called at the beginning of the third one bid have gone on to win the Showcase. That's the best performance, with the first contestant occupying red podium (23) and the first contestant occupying the green podium (21) taking up the second and third spots. Not surprisingly, contestants called at the start of the fourth (11), sixth (5) and fith (3) one bids have been least successful at winning the Showcase.
Comments for the Week of April 23-27
  • Biggest winner this week: James Addeo ($41,243) (April 27)
  • Streaks snapped this week:
    • Pick-a-Pair - 15 straight wins - prior to this week, the last loss was March 21, 2011 (over one year ago!)
      • A very impressive streak has come to an end. The second longest winning streak this season is a mere 6 games (achieved by Flip Flop, Cliff Hangers and Race Game)
    • Most Expen$ive - 6 straight losses - prior to this week, the last win was March 1, 2012
    • Cover Up - 23 straight losses (or 21 losses based on intended airdates) - prior to this week, the last win was May 31, 2011 (nearly 11 months ago!)
    • Coming or Going - 6 straight wins (or 5 wins based on intended airdates) - prior to this week, the last loss was January 20, 2012
  • Shopping Spree was played second on Monday. Last time that's happened: October 27, 2008
  • The Shopping Sprees keep getting bigger and bigger. The $8,000 spending limit offered on Monday is the largest target ever offered in this game (beating out three playings from earlier this season that had a $7,500 spending limit). The game was also played for prizes totalling $9,282, including a $3,974 Lux sauna - the most expensive prize package AND individual prize ever offered in this game.
  • Not to be outdone, Take Two also set new highs on Wednesday: The most expensive prize package ($10,088) and the most expensive individual prize ($4,995 Golden West pool table) ever offered.
  • On Wednesday, Switch? became the first game to be played 30 times this season. Switch? is on pace to be played 38 times, which would be a new high for this game (besting 37 playings from Season 38). However, with Bargain Game back in the rotation, it's uncertain whether Switch? will continue this torrid pace and will manage to reach this mark.
  • On Friday, Coming or Going was played for $6,494 in office furniture. Interestingly, in the previous playing (on April 13) Coming or Going was played for a home gym and a HDTV - this prize package was also worth $6,494.
  • Friday was only the fourth time in the past three seasons where a Hole in One contestant managed to putt from one of the three lines closest to the hole. (For the record, it's been over three years since a contestant putted from the closest line - February 9, 2009)
  • With Cover Up being won, there now remains seven winless games on the season: Bargain Game, Golden Road, More or Less, Pay the Rent, Punch-a-Bunch, 3 Strikes, Triple Play. Out of these seven games, Bargain Game, 3 Strikes and Triple Play are the only games where absolutely nothing has been won this season. (For the record, seven games went winless last season: Golden Road, It's in the Bag, Pay the Rent, Punch-a-Bunch, Switcheroo, Temptation, Triple Play)
  • Last time both Cover Up and That's Too Much were won in the same week: The week of October 25-29, 2010. Between the weeks of October 25-29, 2010 and April 23-27, 2012, there were 40 weeks where both Cover Up and That's Too Much were played, but at least one of the games were lost.
  • Also this week, we passed $10 million in total winnings for the season. We are currently on pace for total winnings of $12.6 million, which would be less than the $13 million mark set last season.
  • 150 episodes have now aired this season. One Away (+6), Range Game (+4), Plinko (+4), Temptation (+3), Swap Meet (+3), Bonus Game (+3) and Make Your Move (+3) are on pace to be played significantly more than last season, while Cliff Hangers (-8), Money Game (-8), Freeze Frame (-6), Lucky $even (-5), It's in the Bag (-5), Pick-a-Number (-4) and Card Game (-3) are on pace to have significant decreases in play.
  • When compared to episodes 51-100, Hi Lo (+3) and Plinko (+3) have been played more in the previous 50 episodes, while Balance Game (-3), Coming or Going (-3) and Flip Flop (-3) have been played less.
